Pulling out of my driveway on Easter Sunday, a butterfly hovered near a window above my garage door. My dear friend and mentor had died just a few days before and I was feeling the weight of his loss.

We don’t see butterflies where I live in April. But there it was, joyfully celebrating the day. Practicing Resurrection with all of its vibrancy and with each flutter of its wings. Proclaiming hope and promise, in that mysterious way God sends a message when we most need it.

Easter comes with its resounding message that life, our existence, does not end with death. But life continues in the care and in the cover of God’s wings. Easter proclaims that death has been defeated. Christ is risen. Christ has risen indeed!

“The angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has been risen, as he said he would.’” Matthew 28:5-6
