Embracing Fall: Nature’s Lessons on Humility

It’s a beautiful fall day in my part of the world, with trees  showing off their colors.    We’ve been surprised by an unseasonable 84 degrees yesterday, and 75 today.  Making  it a  day to seize and enjoy the outdoors  before winter sets in . . . A day  to revel in God’s good gift of creation.

Tree colors are gorgeous right now.   One particularly dry year though, trees  started shedding their leaves in late August and were gone before September was over, never turning more than a dusty brown.   Our unusually early spring, led some to predict that leaves would fall sooner than normal, but they are right on time.     Other’s thought the colors might be dull, which turned out to be the opposite of what I see.    Those who predict quality and timing  of Fall colors can  find themselves humbled, by a tree’s own distinctive messaging system.

Which is a reminder of  moments I have been so certain of my facts, only to discover how very wrong I’ve been.    In this era  of alternative facts and intentional misinformation, it is wise  to check our certainties for their level of truth . . .  Especially,  before passing them on.

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:12
