I often get sidetracked when reading scripture. This morning, when I was reading from I Corinthians these words struck a cord in me, “It is God who called you to share in the life of God’s son, Jesus Christ our Lord; and God keeps Faith.” I Corinthians 1:9 REB
I was reminded, that we don’t fall into the life of faith, but that God called us to it. God calls us to be people who immerse ourselves in the ongoing work of Christ in our world.
The apostle Paul reminds us that when God calls, God is faithful. God doesn’t leave us stranded amidst the challenges, problems, stresses, and sometimes difficult people we encounter.
God keeps faith with us in our emotional distress, our weakness, our illnesses . . . God keeps faith when we stumble, and the wisdom we think we have, turns out not to be wise at all.
Fortunately, God does not leave us stranded in our messes, but continues to keep faith, to bless and to encourage us.
“To those who are the called . . . Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. For God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God’s weakness is stronger than human strength.
I Corinthians 1:24-25
