Faithful Friends are a Sturdy Shelter

My two youngest children had significant health issues in their first years. The gift of that was an Early Intervention program, which brought visitors to my home. Twice a week, I was blessed with women who taught me how to do physical therapy and help my children developmentally.

Sally, Kay, Jeannie and Soni practiced not only in their field of Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy, but also on the fears and concerns of moms.

I came to trust them with other problems. They gave me a different view of myself. They saw in me, that which I did not see. What started out as therapy for my children, became a different therapy for me. Most were moms with young children, who in their care encouraged me to see  the more in me, than I could envision.

Their visits became a life-line in a dark period. In a sense I did not realize at the time, they were opening doors into a another world and way of life. For years I had been living with a limited world view. I took any set back as the final answer to hopes and dreams.

My children both grew out of the program, when health issues were resolved and no longer needed extra support. But, I continue to give thanks for these women, who cracked through a mindset of limited possibilities, to a place were dreams are followed and obstacles overcome.

“Faithful friends are a sturdy shelter:
whoever finds one has found a treasure.
Faithful friends are beyond price;
no amount can balance their worth.” Sirach 6:14-15
