“The Lord announced his victory; he made his saving power known to the nations.” Psalm 98:2 Psalm 98 celebrates God’s victory, a victory displayed in saving righteousness to all the nations. When I think about God’s victory, my mind envisions a world where conflicts that destroy and harm God’s children end. A place where all […]
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27 These comforting words have been spoken at countless memorial services. They are a reminder to the living that in spite of […]
I was struck by a comment that Rich Logis made recently. Rich is the founder of the nonprofit, “Leaving MAGA.” He described his time in the MAGA universe as, “It was exhilarating and enthralling, until it wasn’t. When I left, I came to realize that I had essentially been addicted to rage.” Anger and rage […]
“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering.” Romans 12:2 Message Bible I have officiated at hundreds of funerals in the years of my ministry. Even in the midst of winter, I can find flowers blooming in the conservatory. There is something nurturing and healing, being in the presence […]
“The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.’” Matthew 28:5-6 My confidence in the arrival of Spring wanes in years of bitter winter nights and sluggish March days. Yet, even when […]

I lead a Wednesday afternoon study, primarily of people who are retired. Some have serious health issues right now, and others are dealing with the limitations of aging. We all are appreciating the permission to accept, that the best we can do at the time, is enough.
